Do you know your rights to express your views and preferences on your mental health treatment, care and support?
Due to a change in dates, we currently have vacancies in the My Rights, My Decisions course delivered in partnership with the ACT Mental Health Consumer Network.
New Dates: Thursdays 27 February and 5 March
New Time: 1.30pm to 4.30pm
If you are interested in attending, please submit an enrolment form here.
The aim of this course is to improve students’ understanding of an individual’s rights to express their views and preferences about their mental health treatment, care and support within the context of the ACT Mental Health Act (2015). Students will have the opportunity to learn about the principles of the Act which support the rights of consumers and carers to express themselves while they have decision-making capacity, and the tools which support empowering an individual’s rights and decisions to be taken into account by their treating team.
One of the course’s facilitators is Jenny from the ACT Mental Health Consumer Network. Jenny was the lead in developing the ‘My Rights, My Decisions’ Form Kit which is designed to support mental health consumers to let their views and wishes be known in advance, when they have decision-making capacity. Jenny will discuss important elements of the Form Kit, in particular rights and decisions in relation to:
Advanced Consent Direction
Students will have an opportunity to complete the Form Kit during the course, if desired.
The course also includes guest speakers from the Human Rights Commission and A.C.T. Disability, Aged and Carer Advocacy Service (ADACAS), which is an independent, not-for-profit, advocacy organisation helping people with disabilities, older people and their carers.
This course is delivered in partnership with the ACT Mental Health Consumer Network.
